Professor Sophie Susen

Prof. Sophie Susen, Lille University and INSERM, is professor of Hematology at Lille medical school (France) and heads the department of Hemostasis and Transfusion in Lille University Hospital. She has been a member of the expert-group for blood products (2008-2012) at the French regulatory agency (ANSM). Her basic research activity focuses mainly in the role of VWF and blood flow via different approaches. She is the national coordinator of the French National network on von Willebrand disease and of the French network for bleeding disorders. She has been elected board-member of the French Group in Thrombosis and Hemostasis for 6 years. She is frequently invited to participate to scientific advisory board meeting of pharmaceutical organizations contributing to clinical investigation of new products and she is national or international coordinator of 10 ongoing studies on the field of bleeding disorders including 2 phase I studies.

Her talk will be focused on the role of shear in modulating hemostasis and in particular in promoting bleeding. She will present different in vitro models developed by her group to describe VWF defects in high shear clinical conditions. She will also present and discuss clinical studies exploring these abnormalities in Aortic Stenosis and in patients under mechanical circulatory support.
